What it means

IEC 61215 subjects sample modules to an accelerated ageing sequence: thermal cycling between −40°C and +85°C, damp heat at 85°C and 85% relative humidity, humidity-freeze cycling, mechanical load, hail impact and UV preconditioning, with power measured before and after. IEC 61730 covers construction and electrical safety — insulation coordination, fire classification, creepage distances, and the shock and fire hazard assessments. Passing both is table stakes for grid-connected projects and is separately required by most national codes and by ALMM-style approved lists. Two cautions matter for buyers: certification applies to a specific bill of materials, so a manufacturer switching encapsulant or backsheet suppliers may invalidate it; and the tests qualify a design, they do not verify the quality of the batch you actually received — which is what factory audits and EL sampling are for.
