Resource Adequacy (RA) is a regulatory requirement that load-serving entities (utilities, retail providers) procure enough firm capacity to meet expected peak demand plus a reserve margin. CAISO RA payments are a primary revenue stream for utility-scale BESS, often the largest single revenue line.
