BESS

Also called: Battery Energy Storage System

In one line

Stationary battery system providing grid-scale or behind-the-meter energy storage and grid services.

What it means

A Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) is a stationary battery installation, typically at MW–GW scale, used for grid services. Common applications: energy arbitrage (charge off-peak, discharge on-peak), frequency regulation, capacity (resource adequacy), grid-forming services, and behind-the-meter peak shaving. LFP is the dominant chemistry for stationary BESS in 2026.
