What it means
Green hydrogen is produced by water electrolysis (PEM or alkaline) powered by renewable electricity — typically solar or wind. 2026 production cost ranges $4–$7/kg depending on electrolyser capex, electricity price, and capacity factor. Compare to grey hydrogen (~$1.5/kg, from steam methane reforming, ~9 kgCO2/kgH2) and blue hydrogen (~$2.5/kg, with carbon capture). India's National Green Hydrogen Mission, EU's REPowerEU, and the US IRA 45V credit are the largest 2026 subsidy schemes.
