SiC

Also known as: Silicon Carbide

Wide-bandgap semiconductor enabling higher-efficiency, higher-power-density inverters compared to silicon IGBT.

Silicon Carbide (SiC) is a wide-bandgap semiconductor used in power electronics. SiC MOSFETs operate at higher switching frequency and temperature than silicon IGBT, enabling more compact and more efficient inverters. SiC ships in 35% of new utility-scale string inverters in 2026, up from 18% in 2023.
