Back-Contact Cell

Also known as: IBC, ABC, HBC

Solar cell with all electrical contacts on the rear, eliminating front-side shading and reaching the highest commercial efficiencies.

Back-contact cells (variants include IBC, ABC, HBC) place all electrical contacts on the rear of the cell, removing front-side metallization shading. Mass-production efficiency averages 26.5% in 2026, the highest of any commercial silicon cell type. Capex per GW remains a premium, restricting back-contact to high-end residential and selected utility-scale applications.
